Watt Announces Inaugural J.J. Watt Charity Classic in Texas

J.J. Watt Announces 1st Annual J.J. Watt Charity Classic in Texas to Benefit the Justin J Watt Foundation

The Justin J. Watt Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the J.J. Watt Charity Classic in Texas to benefit the Justin J Watt Foundation.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston, Texas. Events will kick off at noon with a home run derby followed by the softball game (two hour time limit).  Defensive and offensive players from Watt’s NFL team, the Houston Texans, will compete on opposing teams during a seven-inning game.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on March 15th at 9 a.m. both at the Constellation Field box office and online www.sugarlandskeeters.com.

In addition, the event will feature a silent auction with items such as autographed apparel, autographed game-day memorabilia and an “experience package” to sit in the dugout during an inning.  J.J. Watt merchandise will also be available for sale.

Funds raised will benefit the Justin J Watt Foundation. Our mission is to provide after-school opportunities for children in the community to become involved in athletics, so that they may learn the basic character traits of accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance while in a safe and supervised environment with their peers.

“The Justin J Watt Foundation encourages children to dream big and work hard,” says J.J. Watt.  “We hope to provide the motivation and means to turn those big dreams and hard work into something incredible.”

Volunteers for the event have been finalized. Media requests or sponsorship information is available through Capture Marketing atinfo@capturemarketingllc.com or 262.696.5177.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Big praise: Andre Johnson calls J.J. Watt the greatest Texan ever, passing on his title

Andre Johnson’s claim to being the all-time greatest Texan is completely unchallenged. For good reason.

There is no player who has done more for the organization, no player who is more universally respected in the locker room. And this isn’t a ceremonial moniker. In his 10th season, Johnson continues to dominate games.

But the wide receiver sounds like he’s ready to pass on his title. That’s how impressed Johnson is with second-year defensive end J.J. Watt’s game-changing ways.

“If he keeps going like he’s going, I think he’ll probably be the greatest Texan to ever come through here,” Johnson said.

After Watt put his long arms and quick feet all over the Texans’ 29-17 statement victory over the Indianapolis Colts — collecting three sacks, forcing a fumble at the goal line and pushing Andrew Luck and the Colts back again and again — Johnson gave No. 99 arguably the most significant praise he’s ever received.

No one could top Andre’s words, but the Texans are at the point where they are almost competing with themselves to best describe the wonder they feel at Watt’s exploits.

“If he doesn’t win defensive MVP, it’s a scam,” outside linebacker Connor Barwin said.

As for Watt himself? He was lamenting two more sacks he felt he let get away. And telling the fans to not to go crazy over a second consecutive division title for an organization that had zero before No. 99 arrived at Reliant.

“There’s a lot more fun ahead,” Watt said. “I hope everybody is not celebrating too early.”
