Doesn’t matter if it’s on the playground at recess, or on an air strip in the middle of Afghanistan, boys will be boys! In this clip, JJ Watt tells the story of a soldier challenging fellow NFL player Steve Smith to a 40-yard foot race during their March 2013 NFL-USO tour. Watch it here.
Some people look to NFL players as heroes, but for JJ Watt, the real heroes are the individuals who risk their lives every day to serve our country. In the most recent “My Story” video profiling JJ’s trip with the NFL-USO tour to Afghanistan, Watt talks about what it was like going inside a Chinook helicopter, knowing that in 2011, one of them was shot down, causing 22 SEALs to lose their lives in the process. You can watch it here.
We didn’t raise the distance, but we raised the difference we’re making, with our most successful 5K Run/Walk yet! Click here to see WISN’s post on Waukesha Patch about the sold out JJ Watt Foundation 5K Run/Walk!
Thanks to the Milwaukee Sun for shining the light on the success of the 3rd Annual JJ Watt Foundation 5K Run/Walk held in Pewaukee, WI, on June 22. This year we had our highest number of participants yet, and we’re looking forward to giving all of the funds raised to continue the foundation’s mission of supporting after-school athletic programs for children.
High-fives and a huge round of applause to everyone who came out for the third annual JJ Watt 5K Run/Walk this year, held at Waukesha County Technical College! We could not be more stoked to have JJ back in his hometown, and to see the support continue to grow from year to year. All of the funds raised will go towards after-school athletic programs both locally in Wisconsin, and down in Texas. You can find more coverage of the event here.
With some many stories coming back from the war in Afghanistan, sometimes it’s easy to forget that each and every soldier has a name, and their own personal story. For JJ Watt, having the chance to take a ride in the very same helicopters that the military uses on its missions really made the experience hit home. And yes, even JJ was surprised there was enough room in some of them for all 6’5″ of him! Watch him talk about it here.
A mega-Watt shout-out to the following Badgers football players for coming out to the third annual SOLD OUT 5K Run/Walk — Derek Watt, T.J. Watt, Ray Ball, Chris Borland, Warren Herring, Conor O’Neill, and James Adeyanju. Thanks for your support and for being examples of what you can accomplish if you Dream Big Work Hard!
For JJ Watt, posing with the fans and smiling for the camera is a daily occurrence (and sometimes more like a several hundred times a day occurrence) but that doesn’t stop JJ from going the extra step to try to really connect with the fans and make the moment personal. In this “My Story,” JJ talks about doing just that on his recent USO tour to Afghanistan. Video.
Thank you to the Lake Country Reporter for the following story on our upcoming 5K Run/Walk in Pewaukee on June 22. We are now hosting our third annual event, and it grows every year because of the amazing support of local community like you!
“You never get tired of signing autographs for folks in the military.” In this latest episode of “My Story,” JJ Watt talks more about his March 2013 trip to Afghanistan as part of the USO tour. Besides the usual helmets, jackets, and shirts, Watt was even asked to sign some of his very own Texans gear that soldiers had brought with them overseas. Pretty rad. Check out the video here.
